In honor of Valentine’s Day this year, I thought I would take a different approach by paying homage to the profession that I have chosen and why I continue to love what I do.

Ode to the New Age of Marketing

Marketing, let me count the ways I love thee.

You have evolved so much over the past few years.

New trends, new platforms, new opportunities abound.

You amaze and delight me.

You keep me on my toes.

Digital technology has forever changed the marketing landscape. The days of Mad Men are over, and now we must think of marketing with a digital perspective.

Media is changing before our very eyes.  Audiences are transitioning from the channels of old to niche and post cable networks, and social media has not just grown, but it has diversified. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are still relevant, but there are others platforms we must consider. They are all different, and their audiences and content are just as unique.

Video is king of the hill. We love video. It gives us motion and entertains. It creates a feeling and drives action more than any other type of content.

Who knew a few years ago that the reemergence of Pokemon would spring augmented reality from extreme to mainstream?

And, VR, oh I love thee.

You allow us to immerse ourselves in other worlds that otherwise would not be possible.

And, while still in their infancy, artificial intelligence and machine learning are making their mark.

Oh, Marketing!

What will be next?

Innovation marches forward.

How will it continue to evolve the way we connect, the way we engage, the way we succeed?

The possibilities are endless. The future is bright.

One thing is for sure – change is inevitable.

And I can’t wait to be a part of that change.
